Quick Verdict

Start with TalkTalk if entry price is decisive: its Full Fibre 150 offer was £25 a month with no setup fee on 29 August 2026. Start with EE if service evidence, Wi-Fi 7 or a speed above 900 Mbps matters more. Ofcom recorded 6 broadband complaints per 100,000 customers for EE in Q1 2026, equal to the industry average, and 10 for TalkTalk, the highest rate among the major providers included.

EE vs TalkTalk: customer-review evidence

These signals are shown separately because they measure different things. Ofcom complaints record serious escalations, surveys measure experiences across a sample, and public reviews reflect self-selecting recent sentiment. We never combine them into an invented trust score.

Pros and Cons

EE

  • Genuinely fast, consistently reliable speeds, independently recognised by Uswitch
  • Automatic mobile network failover is a real feature, not offered by most rivals
  • Runs on the Openreach network, so availability and line quality match most other national providers
  • No setup fee on most current packages
  • Broadband-specific Trustpilot score is exceptionally low, in the worst bracket alongside BT and Sky
  • Only 24-month contracts are offered, with no shorter or rolling option
  • A scheduled flat price rise applies every March
  • A genuinely low Trustpilot score despite an improved, now-average Ofcom complaints position

TalkTalk

  • Genuinely low entry prices across both part-fibre and full-fibre ranges
  • Runs on the Openreach network, the same physical lines used by BT, Sky and Plusnet
  • Unlimited data with no fair-use clause hidden in the terms
  • Every scheduled price rise is disclosed upfront to April 2028, not sprung on customers later
  • Named the UK's most complained-about broadband provider by Ofcom for three consecutive quarters
  • Trustpilot rating sits at 1.5 out of 5 from over 50,000 reviews, in Trustpilot's "Bad" band
  • Standard router is WiFi 5, a generation behind what most full-fibre rivals now include
  • Two scheduled price rises are already built into every 24-month contract, in April 2027 and April 2028

Choose the one factor you care about most. The result uses published national offers and service evidence, so it is a shortlist rather than an address-level availability result.

Key Differences

Pricing

For EE vs TalkTalk broadband deals checked on 29 August 2026, TalkTalk advertised Full Fibre 150 at £25 a month with no setup fee. EE advertised Core Broadband 100 at £26.99 a month plus £30 upfront. Both use 24-month contracts, so TalkTalk wins this standard entry-price comparison before address-specific promotions or rewards.

Speed

In this EE vs TalkTalk broadband speed comparison, TalkTalk's fixed-speed range reaches 900 Mbps, while EE's ordinary range reaches 1.6 Gbps where available. EE launched 2.3 and 8 Gbps Advanced Full Fibre in August 2026, but only for eligible Guildford, Woking and nearby addresses. Compare the guaranteed and upload speeds offered at your home, not the national maximum.

Coverage

EE vs TalkTalk broadband coverage cannot be reduced safely to one national percentage. Both offer services over networks whose full-fibre footprints vary by address, and TalkTalk also sells some full-fibre packages over CityFibre. Check both postcode tools because speed tiers and network technology may differ at the same home.

Customer evidence

Uswitch's December 2025 survey of more than 27,000 UK broadband decision-makers scored EE 4.18 and TalkTalk 3.87 overall. Separately, Ofcom's Q1 2026 report recorded EE at 6 complaints per 100,000 customers, exactly the industry average, against TalkTalk's 10, the most complained-about of any major UK provider that quarter. These findings use different methods and are not combined with Trustpilot ratings.

Router and home Wi-Fi

EE includes its WiFi 7-enabled Smart Hub 7 Plus with the current Core Broadband plans. TalkTalk includes a router and advertises Total Home Wi-Fi for eligible customers, with configuration help and boosters where needed. Router generation, booster cost and eligibility can vary, so confirm the hardware named in each contract summary.

Contract cost and price rises

Both providers disclose cash increases rather than inflation-linked percentages. EE Core Broadband 100 rises from £26.99 to £30.99 in March 2027 and £34.99 in March 2028. TalkTalk Full Fibre 150 rises from £25 to £29 in April 2027 and £33 in April 2028. TalkTalk also avoids EE's £30 setup charge on these published offers.

Network and switching

EE uses Openreach for its main range. TalkTalk can supply service over Openreach or CityFibre, depending on the address. The physical network affects available upload speeds, installation and package choice. Ofcom's One Touch Switch process covers residential switches between participating providers, but keep the old service active until the new connection date is confirmed.

Company ownership

EE and TalkTalk are not the same company and have no shared ownership. EE is part of BT Group, alongside the BT and Plusnet brands. TalkTalk is an independent, privately owned UK company: Toscafund Asset Management agreed a £1.1 billion deal to take TalkTalk private in December 2020, completed in March 2021, and the company was delisted from the London Stock Exchange. Confusion sometimes arises because both are major UK broadband brands, but no takeover or merger between the two has taken place.

How We Think About This Matchup

Both providers sell part-fibre and full-fibre broadband, but the package and network available depend on the exact address. EE sells its main full-fibre range over Openreach. TalkTalk sells across Openreach and CityFibre footprints, so two neighbours can see different technologies, speeds and guarantees. Check both address tools before comparing a national headline.

The closest standard entry offers are not identical. EE Core Broadband 100 advertises 100 Mbps download, 20 Mbps upload and a 60 Mbps speed guarantee. TalkTalk Full Fibre 150 advertises 150 Mbps average download. TalkTalk therefore provides more headline speed for less money in this entry-level comparison, but only if that package is available at the address.

Full-term cost changes the gap. EE's £26.99 plan includes a £30 one-off charge and rises to £30.99 from 31 March 2027, then £34.99 from 31 March 2028. TalkTalk's £25 plan has no setup fee and rises to £29 from April 2027, then £33 from April 2028. These are published scheduled prices, not estimates.

Customer evidence needs to stay separate by method. Ofcom counts complaints made to the regulator per 100,000 subscribers. Uswitch reports a customer survey, while Trustpilot contains self-selected public reviews and EE has separate whole-brand and broadband-specific profiles. BroadbandPicker does not combine these populations into a made-up score.

Final Verdict

Choose TalkTalk when Full Fibre 150 is available and the priority is the lowest standard entry cost. Its £25 starting price, no setup fee and clearly displayed future prices beat EE Core Broadband 100 on both opening cost and advertised download speed in the offers verified for this review.

Choose EE when current complaints evidence and home networking matter more than the initial saving. Its Core Broadband range includes a WiFi 7-enabled Smart Hub 7 Plus, and Ofcom recorded 6 broadband complaints per 100,000 customers for EE against TalkTalk's 10 in Q1 2026. EE also offers 1.6 Gbps in its ordinary range where available.

For the final check, compare the exact connection type, minimum guaranteed speed, upload speed, first-month payment and scheduled in-contract prices shown for your address. EE's new 2.3 and 8 Gbps Advanced Full Fibre tiers should not drive a national decision because the August 2026 launch is restricted to eligible Guildford, Woking and nearby postcodes.
