Fastr Broadband is a York company building its own full fibre network inside the city walls, one of the hardest places in York to get fast broadband. Plans run from £35.99 a month for 150 Mbps to £119.99 for 7,000 Mbps, all with matching upload speeds, on 24-month contracts with no in-contract price rises (checked 28 October 2026).

This review combines our provider dataset with the methodology published on BroadbandPicker. We look at headline price, contract length, speed tiers, setup fees, coverage, and service trade-offs rather than just the cheapest headline deal.
The evidence inputs for this page are listed below, including the pricing snapshot date and customer-sentiment reference we used during review. Trustpilot is treated as one input rather than a standalone ranking system.
These signals are shown separately because they measure different things. Ofcom complaints record serious escalations, surveys measure experiences across a sample, and public reviews reflect self-selecting recent sentiment. We never combine them into an invented trust score.

On 28 October 2026, Fastr’s home plans were £35.99 a month for Fastr 150, £43.19 for Fastr 500, £59.99 for Fastr 900, £99.99 for Fastr 1800 and £119.99 for Fastr 7000. Every plan has the same upload speed as download speed, and all are on 24-month fixed-price contracts.
Installation is free, and Fastr says there are no in-contract price rises, so the monthly price you sign up at is what you pay for the whole two years. With no rises and no setup fee, the two-year cost is simply 24 times the monthly price. National providers on Openreach and CityFibre usually add a fixed amount each spring, so compare the two-year total rather than the first month.
Fastr’s top plan is listed at 7,000 Mbps, although its marketing says “up to 8Gb”. We quote the package speed. Business plans cost from £47.99 a month plus VAT for 500 Mbps.
Fastr builds only inside York’s city walls. It says it has connected around 8,000 homes and businesses across York city centre so far. Outside the walls, York is covered by Openreach, CityFibre and Virgin Media instead.
The city centre is where York’s broadband is weakest: in July 2025 only 45.9% of homes in YO1 could get gigabit broadband and 17.8% could not get 30 Mbps, against 90.7% gigabit across the City of York (Ofcom Connected Nations 2025, our average of YO1’s residential postcodes). Listed buildings, conservation rules, archaeology and narrow streets slow every network down there.
Enter your full address on Fastr’s own checker before ordering: a street being in Fastr’s area does not mean every building is connected yet.
All Fastr plans are full fibre to the property with symmetrical speeds, so 500 Mbps means 500 Mbps up as well as down. That matters most for video calls, cloud backups and sending large files, where most part-fibre and many full-fibre plans upload far more slowly.
Fastr 150 and Fastr 500 come with a WiFi 6 router, and Fastr 900 and above with WiFi 7. Its installation checklist asks for two spare sockets near where the fibre enters the building, for the router and the fibre box.
Because the network is new and separate from Openreach, Fastr suggests going live alongside your current service and giving notice once you are happy, rather than a same-day switch. Check your current contract’s notice period first.
Fastr offers one contract length, 24 months, with the price fixed for that time. Its FAQs say: “Your price will be fixed for the length of your contract.” That puts it among the few providers with no in-contract rise.
Its terms include a £35 cancellation fee. As with any contract, read the contract summary for early-termination charges before signing.
Fastr bills monthly in advance by Direct Debit, starting once installation is complete. A home phone service over broadband is available, and keeping your number costs £25 once.
If you live or work inside York’s city walls and cannot get full fibre from Openreach or CityFibre, Fastr may be the only way to get gigabit speeds. Its fixed prices and matching upload speeds are genuine strengths.
It is not the cheapest option: its entry plan is dearer than national full-fibre deals, so if a CityFibre or Openreach provider reaches your address, compare the two-year totals. Fastr scored 4.6 out of 5 on Trustpilot from 20 reviews when we checked in October 2026, a positive but small sample.
Our verdict: worth checking first for a city-centre address, especially a business or a home with heavy uploads, and worth comparing against CityFibre providers such as toob where both reach you.
See your exact rise for the month you signed up, what it costs before your contract ends, and cheaper deals over two years.
